A seminar on PRESENT SCENARIO OF INDUSTRIALISATION OF THE EASTERN INDIA will be held on 29th July, 2017 at INDUMATI SABHAGRIHA, Jadavpur University. INTEGRATED WATER SHED MANAGEMENT PROJECT

-       A major Endeavour of FOSET Towards Rural Development

FOSET is implementing two IWMP at Ranibandh Block, Bankura District, - IWMP-14/2011-12 at Chhendapathar and IWMP-15/2011-12 at Ranibandh. 

The treatable area of Chhendapathar Watershed is 3500 hectare with project cost of Rs.525.00 lakhs out of which Rs.37.01Lakhs has been released till date and Rs.37.56 lakhs has been utilized in FY 2015-2016.  Three nos. Watershed Associations have been formed at Dhanjhor, Bagdubi and Sinlahar and all the Associations have been registered under Society Act.  The AGM of all the Watershed Associations have been held in presence of central leadership of FOSET.  Separate Bank A/c. for all the Watershed Association has been opened and Watershed Development Works are implemented through these Associations on a participatory mode. 

The major activities undertaken are (i) Horticulture on 1.3 hectare wasteland, (ii) Renovation of 4 nos. Farm ponds, (iii) Excavation of 6 new farm ponds, (iv) Livelihood support in the form of loan extended to 8 nos. Self Help Groups and (v) Distribution of seed to 500 beneficiaries.  There has been enthusiasm amongst villagers towards the project and confidence on FOSET has grown.

The treatable area of Ranibandh Watershed in 2400 hectare with project cost Rs.360.00 lakhs out of which Rs. 23.48Lakhs has been released till date Rs.23.67 lakhs has been utilized in FY 2015-16.  Two nos. Watershed Associations have been formed at Mitha Aam and Bairipal but they have not yet been registered.  Separate Bank A/c. for the Watershed Association have been opened and Watershed Development Works are implemented through these in participatory mode.  Considerable progress have been achieved in Natural Resource Management like (i) Excavation of 5 new Farm Pons, (ii) Renovation of 3 existing  farm ponds, (iii)  Livelihood support in the form of loan to 6 nos. SHGs with 61 beneficiaries, (iv) Distribution of seed to 600 beneficiaries etc.  The project has been implemented in close liaison with the Panchayati Raj Institutions and it has evoked good response amongst the villagers.

 

The projects are being implemented by our 6 nos. full time WDT members, four of whom have been contractually appointed from the Bankura District.  The Entry Point Activities for both the projects have been successfully completed.  Several Capacity Building Training have been  organized but lot more need to be done for skill upgradation of the villagers.  In the coming months several trainings on Kitchen Garden, Sustainable Agriculture and Integrated Farming will be organized.
