CAMPAIGN & AWARENESS GENERATION PROGRAMMES

This was a major programme of FOSET. In this programme, various aspects of climate change mitigation and adaptation techniques were discussed at length. Eminent scientists and technologists from different parts of the country participated in this program.  

Technology is always to be the most essential component to mitigate climate change. Without any concerted effort from the part of public and private sectors any effort to reduce greenhouse gas emission with not produce the desired result. Climate change is the most serious challenge human society has ever faced and the business houses have already realized the gravity of the issue. Reduction of carbon footprint from the industries and other relevant sectors not only helps to improve the environment but also into increase in profit from the business. With the save environment actions gaining momentum among common people, it is now high time to explore novel technologies and share knowledge among the stakeholders to keep their consumer base intact. There are a number of activities those can be taken into consideration. Some of those are too simple and some are more challenging. Pattern of investment and time required for adaptation of technologies varies from sector to sector. However they all necessitate action with firm commitment to succeed and continuous improvement.

The sectors being reckoned as major contributors of global climate change are:

a) Energy, (b) Transportation, (c) Construction, (d) Agriculture 

This conference provided a platform to the industry houses, stakeholders of the businesses, and the scientists and technologists to share their ideas, exchange the best practices followed so that steps towards adopting Climate Responsive Technologies are initiated from this auspicious Engineers' Day.

The Conference has been organised in collaboration with West Bengal Green Energy Development Corporation and West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd., West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Co. Ltd., West Bengal Power Development Corpn. Ltd., West Bengal Pollution Control Board, West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corpn. Ltd. and CESC Limited.

About One hundred fifty (150) delegates from all over India attended the Conference.

There were four sessions namely Opening Session, Technical Session - I, Technical Session - II and Valedistory Session in the Conference where eminent scientists, engineers & technologists, peoples’ representatives delivered lectures and shared their experiences.

The Conference was inaugurated by Prof. Debesh Das, Hon'ble MIC, Deptt. of Information Technology, Govt. of West Bengal. Prof. Deb Kumar Bose – Advisor of West Bengal State Council of Science and Technology, Govt. of West Bengal; Dr. H. K. Mazumder - Working Chairman of West Bengal State Council of Science and Technology, Govt. of West Bengal; Sri S. P. Gan Choudhury – Managing Director of West Bengal Green Energy Development Corporation Limited and Working President of FOSET, Dr. N. R. Banerjea - Chairman of West Bengal Electronic Industry Development Corpn. Ltd. and President of FOSET and Sri Sudhin Nandi – General Secretary of FOSETwere also present in the inaugural programme.

Sri Aloke Mukherjee - Chairman, Flakt India, Dr. K. K. Satpathy - Director, National Institute on Jute and Allied Fibres Technologies (NIRJFT), Dr. Ramesh Kumar Jalan - Resource person and Moderator of Climate Change Community Solution Exchange, United Nations Development Programme; Dr. Himadri Guha, Managing Director, Mas Construction Pvt. Ltd. took part in the Technical Session - I of the above Conference as Speakers.

Prof. Arunava Mazumdar - Professor, Emeritus of Jadavpur University, Dr. (Mrs.) Anjali Srivastava - Deputy Director & Scientists & Head, Kolkata Zonal Laboratory of National Environment Engineering Research Institute, Sri Pradip Basu - Advisor, CESC Limited, Sri Abhijit Bishyee - Chairman-cum-Managing Director, SOLUTIONS and many other experts were present in the Technical Session - II of the above Conference.
